Dharmachakra
Wheels symbolize the Wheel of Buddhist Law, the endless cycle of rebirth and rebirth. They are round, with four spokes, symbolizing the Four Jinas or the four ‘moments’ in the life of Buddha; or with eight spokes, or octagonal, symbolizing the Noble Eightfold Path.
The spokes sometimes extend beyond the circle, in points. They are also the Buddhist counterpoint of the “disc” of the Hindu god Vishnu and, the like the Vajra, represent the absolute weapon that conquers the passions and annihilates desires. Intersecting vajras (Karma Vajra) are sometimes considered as wheels.
Dharmachakra signifies completion and salvation attained through Buddha’s teachings. It therefore represents the teachings of Lord Buddha. The giving and the acceptance is the wheeling motion of the Dharma - The Law. The Wheel was set in motion when Buddha gave his first preaching at Sarnath.
