An association for Hoteliers

August 12, 2007 – Thimphu: The service industry in Bhutan has come together to form an association for hotelkeepers in the country.

Bhutan Hotel Association (BHA) has been formed keeping in mind the welfare of the members and to promote professionalism in the Bhutanese hospitality sector and also to strengthen the tourism and travel industry.

Only those who have satisfied the council and are engaged in the relevant business required and with a sound financial position can qualify as members. Every person who is admitted to membership of the association has to pay a certain amount as entrance fee.

The main purpose of the association is to unite, supervise and coordinate the activities of the members while promoting the highest standards of professionalism in the hospitality sector. It will also mediate and arbitrate to resolve disputes involving customers, consumers, suppliers or amongst members.

The association will nominate from among the members representatives to serve on committees related to the tourism and travel industry, locally or internationally. It will also establish and maintain a code of conduct amongst members and discourage unfair competition.

The idea that was initiated by the management of Hotel Druk and Jumolhari saw an overwhelming response of 24 hoteliers registering.
