His Majesty to attend mock election in Dungkhar
22 April, 2007 – His Majesty the King will personally usher in the first ever parliamentary exercise of the nation when His Majesty meets and encourages 568 eligible voters from the 24 villages of Kurtoe gewog. The voters are set to participate in the mock election on April 21, in Dungkhar, Lhuentse.
Of great symbolism is the fact that the polling station is located in the primary school on the lawns of Dungkhar dzong, the ancestral home of Jigme Namgyel, the father of the first King of Bhutan.”It is the duty of all Bhutanese to ensure a successful transition to democracy. In carrying out this sacred duty there is no room for failure – failure is not an option,” His Majesty had said in the past.
It will be the first visit by His Majesty to Lhuentse after taking over responsibilities as Monarch in December 2006. His Majesty Jigme Khesar, then Trongsa Penlop, also began his consultations on the Constitution with the people from Lhuentse in December 2005.
His Majesty is currently visiting the eastern dzongkhags having graced the convocation programme at Sherubtse College, Kanglung, on April 10.
