Ugyen, a retired chimi says, “The fourth Druk Gyalpo has improved the people’s livelihood, brought economic progress, political reform and even risked his own life for the security of Bhutan. He is a true heart son of the people and our most trusted parent. We were filled with sorrow on hearing the news that our fourth Druk Gyalpo is retiring from the golden throne.”Seventy-year-old Ugyen’s biggest regret in life is the fact that he was not able to express thanks and gratitude to His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo at the eighty-fifth session of the National Assembly.
Representing Khatoe and Khame geogs in Gasa, Ugyen met His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo during development plan meetings in Punakha which Gasa was still a dungkhag. “His Majesty was the king of the country, but he is spiritually no other than the manifestation of Guru Rinpoche.”
