The Blessings of Chenrezig
Aum kinley Tshering has been blessed. She says that the personification of Chenrezig has touched her. It was in 1997 that the former tshogpa stood near His Majesty the King during the dzongkhag’s Seventh Plan meeting.”Because of His Majesty we now have roads. For those without electricity, His Majesty has provided electricity. We can now talk to our children on the telephone even if they are far away. His Majesty has given us a much better life,” says Aum Kinley.
Like many other people of her generation, Aum Kinley regards His Majesty as the manifestation of Chenrezig. He is the sun of happiness that has enabled everyone to live harmoniously. Aum Kinley treasures the kira and toeko she wore that day. “I am keeping this as my sungma, and I will bequeath it to my grandchildren so they too will be blessed.” She remembers being plagued by regular illnesses all her life. She has not been sick since that day. Thinking about that moment, she begins chanting: “May our fourth Druk Gyalpo live long. May the Bhutanese people live happily. May our fifth Druk Gyalpo reign successfully like his father.”
