INTEL TO COLLABORATE WITH BHUTAN

The royal government of Bhutan yesterday signed an MoU with Intel Corporation to focus on effectively integrating technology
in schools in Bhutan, and promoting rolling out of WiMAX as access technology to broadband, in a phased manner. According to press releases from Intel and the ministry of information and communications (MoIC), Intel and the royal government will jointly evolve and deploy one-to-one eLearning and related ICT to advance education in the schools of Bhutan. One- to-one eLearning refers to an environment in which every teacher and student has dedicated access to teaching or learning devices, and is supported by policy, professional development, curriculum, and evaluation. To support the government’s goal of deploying one-to-one eLearning in all schools, Intel will provide curricular resources via Intel Skoool content delivery technology and support professional development
via Intel Teach Elements. Intel and the Bhutan will also jointly promote the business and technology advantage of WiMAX, thereby advancing telecommunications coverage and access to the country. It will stimulate the country’s economy by promoting the growth of local manufacturing of personal computers for education.Information and communications minister Lyonpo Nanda Lal Rai said that the collaboration with Intel strengthens Bhutan’s commitment to improve the education system, and in turn, its citizens’ competiveness in the global economy. “The PCs and teacher training provided by Intel will immensely help us reach the benefits of technology to teachers and students in rural and semi-rural areas, and develop their competency in 21 century skills,” he said.
Mr. Navin Shenoy, vice president and head, Asia-Pacific, Intel Corporation, said Intel is proud to collaborate with the Bhutanese government to demonstrate the value of information and communication technologies in schools. “Together, we are confident
of creating an enhanced learning experience for teachers and students by integrating technology into school educating methods.”
Intel will donate 200 Classmate personal computers to nine primary and community schools and one lower secondary school in Bhutan.
Intel, the world leader in silicon innovation, develops technologies, products and initiatives to advance how people work and live.
