Lok Sabha Speaker to address parliament

28 May, 2010 – In what will be a parliamentary interaction between the world’s youngest and largest democracies, Speaker Meira Kumar of the Lok Sabha, parliament of India, will address the Bhutanese parliament today, the opening day of the 5th session.
The Speaker is on a three-day visit, leading a parliamentary friendship group to Bhutan, the first of 60 groups planned to enhance interaction with foreign countries. The leader of opposition, Sushma Swaraj, will be part of the multi-party delegation, which will include Girija Vyas, Pyarimohan Mohapatra, Vishwamohan Kumar and Ranjitsingh Mohite Patil.
As the first Speaker from India to address the parliament in Bhutan, Kumar intends to carry forward the close relationship, which exists between the two countries.
