Parliamentary Friendship Group to share legislative experiences

May 28: The Speaker of Lok Sabha of India who graced the opening session of the Parliament announced the setting up of Parliamentary Friendship Group. The group will consist of young experienced members from the Indian parliament that will help facilitate exchange of legislative experiences aimed at reinforcing and renewing the bonds of friendship between the two parliaments. “We are pleased to extend in the future our support to parliamentarians and officials of Bhutan through the bureau of parliamentary studies and training,” said the Indian Speaker, Meira Kumar. She said the frequent visits of high level officials would also help further cement the ties between Bhutan and India. She also spoke on the Indo-Bhutan relations and said that Bhutan and India are bound by strong ties- ties that are ‘historical and spiritual’. The Speaker in her opening address also congratulated the government for the successful completion of two years of the first parliament and the first democratically elected government. His Majesty the King hosted lunchoen for the Speaker and her delegation, including the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj today. The Indian Speaker arrived in the country on Wednesday. She is accompanied by the Opposition Leader in the Lok Shaba Susma Swaraj and other parliamentarians. Source: bbs.com.bt |
