Architecture student wins gold

25 August, 2011 – A Bhutanese architecture student, studying in Cuba was awarded a gold medal for his outstanding academic performance while at the University of Camaguey, Cuba.
Kuenga Nidup, from Shar Palukha in Wangdiphodrang was awarded the gold in the “Specialty of Architecture.” He was studying B. Architecture on government scholarship. “It was a result of sleepless nights of studying,” Kuenga Nidup who is now in the country said. “Keeping in mind what His Majesty the King said when we received an audience before we left for our studies, I studied hard.”
A bright student right from pre-primary school, Kuenga got the scholarship after his Class XII board examination, which he appeared from Punakha Higher Secondary School. “If Kuenga was intelligent, he was really hard working,” recalls one of Kuenga’s primary school teacher.
Meanwhile, Kuenga said Bhutan needs to look for environment friendly architecture like using solar panel and windmill for lighting and heating purposes. The recent graduate had missed the registration deadline for the preliminary common examination to enter the civil service and said he will work with private firms to fully utilize what he learnt in Cuba.
