Education City Project
Sixty-six high schools students from India and Singapore are in the country on an exchange programme, as part of the ‘transition model’ for Education City Project that aspires to make Bhutan an educational hub.
The transition model, to fill in for the time in might take to build the education city project infrastructure, includes short courses and exchange programs with various reputed international educational institutions, to establish linkages and promote the Education City project.
Yesterday the students and teachers from Raffles institution in Singapore and Welham girls school, Scindia boys school and Vasant valley school in India, interacted with guest speakers and Bhutanese education officials, and asked a number of questions about the Bhutan education system and environment, the quality of education, vocational training, education for disability students, national language and the culture and tradition in schools.
The education secretary, Sangay Zam, and vice chancellor, Dasho Pema Thinley, answered the questions.
The Vasant valley school students said the implementation of education system is better here compared to India, and even more fascinating to see Gross National Happiness given more importance.
The Welham girls school said the balance between modern education and culture was what they liked the most about the Bhutanese education system. The Raffles students added that the Bhutanese students are warm and interactive, and the environment was beautiful.
They visited Yangchenphug higher secondary school (HSS) and will visit Punakha HSS today. They leave Bhutan on November 30 after a 10-day visit.
