GNH citizen

Lyonchhen Jigmi Y Thinley yesterday conveyed the government’s appreciation to the 37-year-old freelance driver who recently returned a bag containing cash worth Nu 6.8 million to its owner.

Lyonchhen met with driver Tashi Dawa and commended for his civic sense and compassion for the person who lost the bag. Lyonchhen conveyed the government’s deep appreciation to Tashi Dawa for the example he has set for the people of Bhutan.

Tashi Dawa found the bag at a parking lot in Paro on November 10. He returned the bag immediately after finding out its owner, a Bank of Bhutan employee.

“It is at a time when the Bhutanese are faced with the dangers of transforming into a purely materialistic and consumerist society, Tashi Dawa has set a great example and served as an inspiration,” Lyonchhen said.  “It is people like him who remind us of the need to balance our material pursuit with spiritual and ethical endeavours and deeds. He is by example a GNH citizen.”

Tashi Dawa received Nu50, 000 from the government as a token of appreciation and recognition of his honesty.

Tashi Dawa is from Dungmin Gewog in Pemagatshel. He is a father of three children.
