Cabinet approves delinking of TCB secretariat

The cabinet this week approved the delinking of Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB) secretariat from the civil service with the condition that TCB will submit a proposal outlining its structure and terms of reference for cabinet approval yet again.

The cabinet noted that TCB secretariat will be an independent body functioning along corporate lines with accountability to its council.

However, because tourism is one of the most important growth sectors in the economy, the cabinet decided that the TCB will be delinked from the civil service but it will still be part of the policy arm of the government.

Cabinet ministers agreed that the current practice of having four government ministers among council members will be continued.

Currently, prime minister is the chairperson of TCB while ministers of home and cultural affairs, agriculture and forestry, and economic affairs are council members.
